Q:Why do tin/aluminium cans have grooves in the side?
If they didn't, they would easily be crushed during shipment. It makes them much stronger to have the grooves. Norrie's got a good point.
Q:separate aluminium from sodium hydroxide?
Trust me. Its not worth salvaging the hydroxide. Aluminum hydroxide is unbelievably stable and that means you probably won't be able to salvage the hydroxide without doing electrolysis or something difficult like that. That's like trying to obtain hydroxide from methanol CH3OH. Oh yea you can make methanol quite easily from a halomethane by reacting it with a hydroxide of some kind. But you will not be able to remove that hydroxide at all without neutralizing it with an acid. Hydroxides are bloody awful leaving groups. That oxygen is really glued on to that carbon well. You have to really destabilize that methanol to remove that hydroxide. Same with the aluminum hydroxide. Very stable and strong bond.
Q:What's up with aluminum foil?
The /
Q:can automakers use honeycombed aluminum to strngthen the frames of automobiles?
Honeycombed materials are not strong in all directions. Honeycombed materials are strong in a force at 0 degrees, but will collapse under a teensy force at 90 degrees. Since a car can be damaged from many directions, the use of honeycombed materials would not be ideal. The website I've listed is about the strength of honeycombed materials and is interesting, but does not specifically address your question.
Q:Engines: Aluminum block vs. Iron block?
The latter points were right. Iron blocks are heavier, although much cheaper to make. Aluminum ones are significantly lighter and handle heat better, but it is a bit more expensive to make them.
Q:Is using Aluminum foil bad?
Almost everyone says aluminum is completely safe. And yet no one can explain where the aluminum comes from in the brains of alzheimers patients. The human body does not produce aluminum. There are those who say it comes from our cookware and deodorants. A slow build up in the brain over many years. Is it true? I don't know. I'm not a scientist and I don't play one on TV. I do know that we switched over to all cast iron and steel some years ago and only buy deodorants without aluminum.
Q:WIFFLE BALL bats have you ever used a ALUMINUM WIFFLE BALL bat?
I've used an aluminum Wiffle bat and it really feels a lot better to hit with than the yellow plastic number. The Aluminum bats are still super light, but there is a bit of weight to it, and that weight is kind of end-loaded, which you can really feel as you turn your wrists over. The net result is a swing that feels more like a real bat with the barrel whipping through the hitting zone instead of that flyswatter feel you get with the regular bats. Oh, and you definitely get more distance when you connect. Definitely. I actually played in a Wiffle Ball tournament a few years ago and used those bats. Someone said that they no longer make them or they've been outlawed or something along those lines.
Q:How can aluminium ingots be processed into aluminium coils (aluminium sheets)?
This depends on what kind of ingot, and if it is small, it needs to be melted into a furnace, cast into a large plate, and then rolled on a mill
Q:is aluminium foil good for food packing ?
yes! its completely safe. well untill the food gets rotten its safe to consume food covered in aluminium foil.It doesnt spoil food and it does keep the food hot depending on te temperature of food and the weather outside.
Q:Powdered aluminum is used in the thermite reaction for welding metals.?
Aluminum powder is a powerful and energetic reducing agent. The Iron(iii) ions have a greater electron affinity than metallic aluminum does, so it will easily borrow electrons from the aluminum to become metallic iron. The total reaction is Fe2O3 + 2Al === Al2O3 + 2Fe. It's important to note that the oxygen in the iron(iii) oxide doesn't really participate in this single replacement reaction, as it is not chemically changed. Fe2O3 is an ionic compound which consists of Fe[3+] ions and O[2-] ions. So more correctly Fe[3+) + Al + 3O[2-] === Al[3+] + Fe + 3O[2-] The ionization energy for aluminum is also greater than for iron, so this reaction generates a lot of heat, enough heat to produce 2,500-3,500 degree C molten iron. In fact, aluminum can reduce many different metal oxides in the same manner. So the thermite reaction can be used to produce a number of metals like copper, calcium, manganese, chromium, or even titanium.
